Performance Audit on Anti-Malaria Interventions Tabled in Parliament

AUDIT SERVICE SIERRA LEONE PERFORMANCE AUDIT REPORT ON ANTI-MALARIA INTERVENTIONS TABLED IN PARLIAMENT

Freetown, Sierra Leone- August 23, 2012- The Auditor General of Sierra Leone wishes to inform the general public that her Performance Audit Report on Anti-Malaria Interventions has been submitted and tabled in Parliament on the 23rd of August, 2012.Section 66 (4) of the Government Budgeting and Accountability Act (GBAA) 2005 states that “Nothing in this section shall prevent the Auditor General from submitting special report for tabling in Parliament on matters that should not await disclosure in the annual report”.As the Supreme Audit Institution, Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) is set on expanding the scope of external audits. In addition to the Financial and Regularity Audit, ASSL has established Performance Auditing as one of the services that will inspect the economy,efficiency and effectiveness with which institutions use resources in carrying out their responsibilities.In line with the Auditor General’s mandate, ASSL has undertaken this Performance Audit on Anti-Malaria Interventions by the National Malaria Control Programme of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, highlighting the administration of the three key Anti-Malaria interventions, namely: Arteminisin-based Combination Therapy (ACT);Insecticide Treated Nets (ITN); and Intermittent Preventive Treatment (IPT) and the roles these interventions should play in reducing the burden of Malaria in the country.The full report can be found on the Audit Service Sierra Leone website www.auditservice.gov.sl or available at the Audit Service Sierra Leone Headquarters, 2nd Floor, Lotto Building, Tower Hill, Freetown.
