Freetown, Sierra Leone – 6th October, 2016- The Auditor General of Sierra Leone wishes to inform the general public that the special report on the Audit of Procurement Activities in Selected Public Sector Entities for the period of January – October 2015, has been tabled in Parliament on 6th October, 2016.
The Audit Service Sierra Leone conducted audits of procurement activities and a selection of specific contracts in five audit entities. The entities were the ministries of Defence, Education, Agriculture, the Sierra Leone Police and the Western Area Rural District Council, covering the period of 1st January to 31st October 2015.
Section 11(2) (c) of The Audit Service Act, 2014 confers on the Audit Service the right to carry out value for money and other audits to ensure that efficiency and effectiveness are achieved in the use of public funds.
In line with the Auditor General’s mandate, as guardian of the public purse and Sierra Leone’s economic security, the ASSL undertook the audits in accordance with the Audit Service Act, 2014 and the International Standards of Supreme Auditing Institutions (ISSAI).
Section 95(6) of the Public Financial Management Act 2016 states that “Nothing in this section shall prevent the Auditor General from submitting a special report for tabling in parliament on matters that should not await disclosure in the annual report.
The Audit Service Sierra Leone will continue to serve the people of Sierra Leone as “The Guardian of Sierra Leone’s Economic Security” in a professional manner.
