Freetown, Sierra Leone – May 31st, 2016– The Auditor General of Sierra Leone wishes to inform the general public that the Performance Audit Report on the Management of Government Residential Quarters and the Performance Audit Report on the Management of Government Commercial Buses by the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation were tabled in Parliament on the 31st May, 2016.
Section 11(2) (c) of The Audit Service Act, 2014 confers on the Audit Service the right to carry out value for money and other audits to ensure that efficiency and effectiveness are achieved in the use of public funds.
Section 66 (4) of the Government Budgeting and Accountability Act (GBAA) 2005 states
that “Nothing in this section shall prevent the Auditor General from submitting special reports for tabling in Parliament on matters that should not await disclosure in the annual report”.
In addition to the financial and regularity audits, the ASSL has established performance auditing as one of the services that will inspect the economy, efficiency and effectiveness with which institutions use resources in carrying out their responsibilities.
In line with the Auditor General’s mandate, as guardian of the public purse and Sierra Leone’s economic security, the ASSL undertook both performance audits in accordance with International Standards of Supreme Auditing Institutions (ISSAI) and the Performance Audit Guidelines.
